The Yorkshire
Morgan Sports Car Owners Club came to visit us here at the Abbey Inn for
breakfast, before their annual spring run, known as the Spring Gambol. We were a
little apprehensive when we heard that over 30 vehicles may come. And then the
numbers just grew. Eventually we served breakfast to the drivers and co-drivers
of 47 cars, ranging in age from the very modern back to 1937. 47 cars take up a
lot of space but they managed to find space across the front of the pub, up both
sides of our road, filling the car park (on a first in, last out basis) and all
across the railway bridge. It was quite a spectacle; certainly Newlay has not
seen the like before.
We must thank the group for their patience in
finding somewhere to stop. Our locals who came to visit also found the whole
event quite impressive.
May we take the
opportunity to thank “Marco”, a customer and chef who with friends helped Joan
immensely with the provision of
breakfast.
Mention must also go to John for the loan of the extra catering equipment.
We hope to do this again
at some point so keep an eye out. In the meantime have a look at the photos here
on the website.
